00Facilitator protocol
Loss Recovery Protocol.
Run this immediately after a loss. Do not wait. Do not skip to the next match.
Steps 1–3 are non-negotiable. Say them in order, word for word. Step 4 is optional — use it when time and energy allow.
Step 01
Acknowledge the emotion
Say — word for word
"That result was frustrating. That's a real feeling and it makes sense."
Wait 30 seconds. Do not qualify it. Do not move on early.
Step 02
Locate the decision point
Say — word for word
"Your equation predicted X. The actual result was Y. Residual: X − Y."
"Now look at this morning's percent change calculation. Your biggest stat change was Z% in [stat]. The result changed by [residual]. Is the change in your performance proportional to the change in your configuration?"
Give them 60 seconds to look at both worksheets.
Do not provide the interpretation — ask for theirs. If they changed a stat by 50% and the result barely moved, the model is missing something. If the result moved proportionally, the model is working. Either finding is useful.
Step 03
Restore hypothesis-making
Say — word for word
"You have N matches left in Season 2. Your Prediction Market card calls for W wins. What is the one adjustment — configuration or strategy — most likely to close the gap?"
Write their answer down. That is their hypothesis going into the next match.
Do not evaluate the hypothesis now. Your job is to get them into planning mode, not to approve the plan.
Step 04 · Optional
Go public with the residual
Say — if using
"Walk to one other team. Tell them: 'Our residual was _____, so we're changing _____.' One sentence. Then come back."
60 seconds. If a student declines, let it go. If time is tight, skip Step 4.
