How to Run a Match

The short version. Two people can run a whole match with this page. The full reference is Match Day — what to fill in, and when.

★

One rule above all: the second the match ends, capture your data in the match log, then transfer it to the dashboard. Everything else can wait; the dashboard is the record that counts toward the leaderboard.

Students Run a match in 5 steps
  1. Make your prediction Before the match Decide how many goals you'll score and why. Pick your prediction source (which stat or equation you used) and write your predicted goals. You can write this straight into the dashboard Match Log. A prediction made after the match doesn't count.
  2. Play the match During Run your bot. If you have a teammate free, they keep the Live Event Log — jot each goal and roughly when it happened, plus anything that goes wrong (bot slows, gets stuck, drifts). Times matter. (Skip this if you're short a person.)
  3. Put the score in the dashboard The second it ends Open the Team Data Dashboard → Match Log and enter your result. This is the step that counts. (Exact clicks below.)
  4. Say what happened Same screen In What happened? write one sentence that names a stat or a time — not the score. Then say what you'll test next round.
  5. Save Before you walk away Click Save and wait until you see “Saved ✓.” If it didn't save, it didn't happen.
Students Entering the score — exact clicks
  1. Check the Week field first. A row left on the wrong week shows dimmed and does not count — this is the most common mistake.
  2. Scroll down to Match Log → “Add your match result below.”
  3. Pick your Prediction source first. Goals For and Goals Against stay locked until you do — that's not a bug.
  4. Fill in Round, Day, Opponent, Predicted goals, Goals For (GF), Goals Against (GA). (Error and Win/Loss fill in by themselves.)
  5. Write What happened? — name a stat, a time, or something you saw. Not the score.
  6. Write what you're testing next round.
  7. Click + Log match.
  8. Click Save → wait for “Saved ✓.”
Students Change your prediction for next round

You don't erase your old prediction — each new round is a fresh prediction that learns from the last one. Look at your error (predicted − actual) and predict again: “Our error was ___, so next round we predict ___.” Optional when time is tight

Season 1 (Days 7–10): change predictions, not stats

In Season 1 you keep the same stat loadout the whole season — the only thing you change between matches is your prediction. You do not reallocate Speed / Endurance / Turning / Power. Stat reallocation happens in Season 2 (that's when the Stat Change Log unlocks).

Students If a call or dispute happens

Only if something's contested: write it on the Rule Log right away. You have a 30-second window after the match — no note, no dispute, and once those 30 seconds pass the result is locked. The full ruleset is Match Rules. Only if needed

Note: inventing new rules or formats (the Commissioner proposals) is a separate activity on Days 11 & 16 — it's not part of running a normal match.

Teachers What's essential vs. what you can skip

On a normal day, run all of it. On a short or chaotic day, keep the four MUST rows and cut the rest — the match still counts.

Live Event Log (paper, during play)Must Great source for the “what happened” note; drop it when rushed.
Prediction Sheet (paper)Must The dashboard prediction fields replace it.
Match Data Log (paper)Must The dashboard is the master record — skip the paper copy.
Post-match update / error & revised predictionMust Do it as a quick whole-class debrief instead of per team.

Reallocating stats / Stat Change LogSeason 2 onlyNo stat changes in Season 1 (Days 7–10) — teams keep their loadout and change only predictions. Unlocks Season 2.
The one thing you can never cut

The dashboard Match Log + Save. If a team skips everything else but logs the score with the right Week and hits Save, the day still produced usable data. Teacher companion: In-Season Dashboard Guide.
