4-Day Close-Out

The last four days of the program — one per day, 10:00–3:00 with an hour for lunch (Friday ends early, right after the exhibition). This class has driving robots and finished the stat labs, so these days run the Distance Lab: students drive, measure, and build a real equation from their own numbers — no matches needed. Do the steps in order; each has a clock time. Have ready daily: robots, student devices, and paper/pencils.

Two things that must happen — do not skip

1. Thursday (Day 3): every student takes the Post-Task and the Reflection online. The pilot's whole measurement against Day 1. Open the Post-Task (~12 min, silent), then the Reflection. Each student types name, last initial, and team exactly as on Day 1, or their results can't be matched. Do it even if you run out of time for everything else.

2. Students teach their own math to a visitor. Do not answer for them.

Distance Lab + Target Challenge Day 1 · Tue Aug 4 · 10–3

Also have ready: a tape measure per team, painter's tape for start/target lines. Guides: Distance Lab · Answer Key.

  1. 10:00Set up the Distance Lab. Tape a start line per team. Load the Distance Lab code (A drives, B adds 0.5 s). Teach: predict BEFORE the bot moves; after each run say "we predicted ___, we got ___, the gap was ___."
  2. 10:20Distance Lab worksheet. Drive 1 s → speed. Predict a longer drive, measure, fix ONE number. Five trials, then write distance = speed × time + start-up.Student sheet: EN · ES. Completed example (ES): resuelto.
  3. 12:00Lunch (1 hour).
  4. 1:00Target Challenge — Precision Final. Tape a target line. Solve the drive time from your equation, ×1000 to ms, program, drive. Practice, then a surprise target — closest wins.Sheet: EN · ES · MakeCode · Answer Key. Completed example (ES): resuelto.
  5. 2:15Start the equation poster in Canva: your equation and a graph of your trial dots. Finish it tomorrow.How-to: EN · ES. Printable step-by-step worksheet (b/w): EN · ES.

Percent change + finish the poster Day 2 · Wed Aug 5 · 10–3

  1. 10:00Percent Change. How much did your prediction improve? "First guess off by ___, best off by ___ — a ___% improvement."Help: Percent Change.
  2. 10:45Compare equations. Read another team's equation; write one thing to keep and one to re-check in yours — citing a number.
  3. 11:15Finish the poster + QR code. Add the percent-change result. Make a QR to the shared Canva design. Print posters in black & white on 8.5 × 11 — the QR opens the full-color design in Canva.
  4. 12:00Lunch (1 hour).
  5. 1:00Skills Arena — the whole afternoon. Robot driving challenges: drive straight, turn exact angles, park on a spot. Skills Arena (has an EN | ES toggle) · Answer key.

Practice teaching + measure the growth Day 3 · Thu Aug 6 · 10–3

  1. 10:00Teach the Math. Each team explains its equation in plain language with its real numbers — what the speed number means, what the start-up means. Write your one-sentence opener.Tool: Teach the Math.
  2. 11:00Teach-back rehearsal. Pair up. One is a confused visitor; the other explains ONCE and lets them try — no rescuing. Fix the sentence that didn't land, then switch.
  3. 12:00Lunch (1 hour).
  4. 1:00Post-Task Diagnostic + Reflection. 12 min, individual, silent — then the Reflection. Names must match Day 1. Protect this; never cut it.Post-Task · Reflection.
  5. 1:50Set up your exhibition station. Poster up, bot ready, target line down — staged the way a visitor will meet it tomorrow. Do one full dry run.Early finishers: Skills Arena (EN | ES).

Teach visitors, then celebrate Day 4 · Fri Aug 7 · 10–12:30 · early dismissal

  1. 10:00Expert setup + last rehearsal. Stations ready; run the sentence you rewrote yesterday once more.
  2. 10:30Community Exhibition. Visitors try your challenge and you teach them; each student keeps a Teach-a-Visitor sheet (tracker) and hands each visitor a Visitor Sheet to solve on. Stay out of it; the students teach.Print for each student: Teach-a-Visitor EN·ES. A stack of Visitor Sheets EN·ES.
  3. 12:00Closing circle + celebrate. Each student names one thing they can do now that they couldn't on Day 1. Sign posters, quick group photo — then early dismissal (~12:30).
What you are NOT doing — and that's fine

No matches, no championship, no scouting, no awards. This class never ran matches, and that's okay — the Distance Lab gives the same real math (build an equation, test it, improve it, teach it). If a link won't open or something is missing, contact the site coordinator.
