Match Catch-Up Plan
The final 5 sessions. The activities stalled because there was no match data to work with — so this plan generates the data first, then runs the analysis that was blocked. Send Liz the data (recorded on paper) and she will backfill the 2 matches already played, then run two match blocks (Season 1 on Session 1, Season 2 on Session 3) — you need matches on both sides of a stat change to compare. The 5 sessions run Tue Aug 11, Wed 12, Thu 13, Fri 14, and Mon 17. Each session runs 9:00–2:00 with an hour for lunch — about 4 hours of programming a day; the clock times below fill that window. Have ready daily: robots, devices, the paper match log.
This replaces Days 10–16 of the original plan. The full 16-day arc it's catching up to: the original 16-day schedule.
Three things that must happen — do not skip
1. Backfill the 2 matches correctly (Session 1, morning). In the dashboard Match Log, each row needs the right Week (Season 1 = Week 2), a Prediction source and Predicted goals (Goals For / Goals Against stay locked until you pick a source), the actual GF/GA, and a one-sentence "what happened." Wrong week = the row doesn't count. How to log a match · full workflow.
2. Session 4: every student takes the Post-Task and the Reflection online — the pilot's measurement against Day 1. Names exactly as Day 1. Do it even if you run out of time for everything else.
3. Session 5: students teach their own math to a visitor. Don't answer for them.
The season rule — keep it straight
Season 1 (Sessions 1–2): teams keep the loadout they already have — no stat changes. Reallocating stats starts in Season 2 (Session 3). Don't let a team re-tune stats before then, or the Season 1 → Season 2 comparison falls apart.
This week — 4 sessions (Tue–Fri)
Season 1 final matches + Distance Formula Session 1 · Tue Aug 11 · recovers Day 10
- AMBefore class — you enter the 2 played matches into the dashboard Match Log (see the STOP box for the required fields). This is what unblocks everything downstream.Dashboard · In-Season Dashboard Guide.
- 9:00Set your prediction (Season 1 — predictions only). Quick — each team writes on paper how many goals it expects and which stat or formula that number comes from. Stats stay locked this week. You'll build your bot's equation in tomorrow's Distance Lab.
- 9:15Season 1 Final Round — Rounds 1–2. Prediction ritual before each; play; log predicted vs. actual + one sentence the second it ends. Loss-recovery between losses. How to Run a Match · Match Rules.
- 11:00Lunch (1 hour).
- 12:00Season 1 Final Round — Round 3 + confirm the dataset. Log the last round; every team confirms all rounds (2 backfilled + today's) are in the dashboard with predicted, actual, and residual.Paper sheets (teacher): Prediction · Live Event Log · Post-Match Update · Match Log · Rules Log.
- 12:45Distance Formula — how far did the ball travel? Apply d = √((x₂−x₁)² + (y₂−y₁)²) to points on the arena grid from your matches.Distance Formula (EN | ES toggle).
- 1:30Skills Arena — sharpen your driving (drive straight, turn exact angles, park on a spot) — the same driving the matches test.Skills Arena (EN | ES toggle).
Ends: every team has ~4–5 Season-1 rounds logged, plus a distance-formula calculation.
Distance Lab + Target Practice + Percent Change Session 2 · Wed Aug 12
- 9:00Distance Lab. Drive, measure, predict, fix one number — build distance = speed × time + start-up (that's y = mx + b) from your own driving data.Guide: Distance Lab. Worksheet: EN · ES.
- 10:30Target Practice. Solve the drive time from your equation — time = (target − start-up) ÷ speed, ×1000 for ms — program it, hit the line.Worksheet: EN · ES.
- 11:00Lunch (1 hour).
- 12:00Target Practice — surprise target. Predict, drive, and log predicted vs. actual for each shot. Closest wins.
- 12:30Percent Change. Quantify your improvement: (new − old) ÷ old × 100 — how much did fixing your method change your speed?Percent Change (EN | ES toggle).
- 1:30Skills Arena — if time allows.Skills Arena.
Ends: every team has a written equation, a target hit, and a percent-change result.
Proportional Scaling + reallocation + Season 2 matches Session 3 · Thu Aug 13 · Season 2 opens
- 9:00Proportional Scaling — scaling your stats. A straight-line stat (Motor Power = Speed × 5) scales by the same factor; a squared stat (Power²) grows much faster. See what a stat change will do before you reallocate.Proportional Scaling.
- 9:45Season 2 stat reallocation. Fill out the My New Build worksheet, reprogram your bot, test the change in solo practice, then commit your new loadout in the dashboard.Worksheet: Season 2 Reallocation · Dashboard.
- 11:00Lunch (1 hour).
- 12:00Season 2 Match Day — Rounds 1–3. Play the truncated Season 2 on your new loadout. Predict before each; log predicted vs. actual right after; confirm every result is in the dashboard. How to Run a Match.
- 1:30Open Lab — log + Skills Arena. Confirm every Season-2 result is logged; sharpen driving if time.Skills Arena.
Ends: stats reallocated and tested in a Season-2 match block; every result logged.
Teach the Math + poster + Post-Task Session 4 · Fri Aug 14
- 9:00Teach the Math — protected, do not cut. Explain your equation in plain words with your real numbers — no jargon. A partner plays a confused visitor and tries it once — a rehearsal for Monday's exhibition.Teach the Math (EN | ES toggle).
- 10:00Create your poster. Your equation, a graph of your data, and your percent-change result — the artifact you'll teach from at the exhibition.How-to: Equation Poster. Worksheet: EN · ES.
- 11:00Lunch (1 hour).
- 12:00Post-Task Diagnostic — protected, never cut it. 12 minutes, individual, silent. Names exactly as Day 1.Post-Task Diagnostic.
- 12:25Post-Reflection — protected. The student reflection survey — same names as Day 1.Reflection Survey.
- 12:50Open Lab — exhibition setup. Set up your station — poster, bot, dashboard; do one dry run. Skills Arena if time.Skills Arena.
Ends: every team rehearsed teaching its equation, built its poster, and finished the Post-Task + Reflection.
Next week — 1 session (Mon)
Community Exhibition + Awards Session 5 · Mon Aug 17
- 9:00Expert Setup. Stations ready — poster, bot, and dashboard on display; last rehearsal of your one sentence.
- 9:30Community Exhibition — teaching begins + Best Teacher voting. A visitor solves a problem using your equation — you teach, they solve, you check. Hand each a Visitor Sheet; keep a Teach-a-Visitor tracker. Stay out of it; the students teach.Teach-a-Visitor: EN · ES. Visitor Sheet: EN · ES. Ballots: Visitor Ballots.
- 11:00Lunch (1 hour).
- 12:00Community Exhibition continues + Walk the Wall. A second wave of visitors, then a quiet gallery walk — every artifact from the run on display.
- 1:00Awards Ceremony. Named by the math — Season 2 Champion, Most Improved (percent change), Best Analyst, Best Teacher — each with its calculation.
- 1:45Open Lab — final debrief. "On Day 1 I couldn't ___. Now I can ___." What landed, what confused visitors, what you'd change.
Ends: every student taught a visitor their own math, finished the Post-Task, and named their growth.
If a match block runs short or a team has no opponent
You don't need a full round-robin — 2–3 rounds per block is enough data to see a trend. If teams are idle, a solo Skills Arena drill or a Distance-Lab re-run gives the same predict-vs-actual data to log. Skills Arena.
